How many times a day does a clock's hands overlap?

In T hours, the minute hand completes T laps ( Where T is any natural number). In the same amount of time, the hour hand completes T/12 laps. For example in 1 hr minute and completes 1 lap and hour hand completes 1/12 lap. I hope this is clear so far.

The first time the minute and hour hands overlap, the minute hand would have completed 1 lap more than the hour hand. So we have T = T/12 + 1. This implies that the first overlap happens after T = 12/11 hours (~1:05 am). Similarly, the second time they overlap, the minute hand would have completed two more laps than the hour hand. So for N overlaps, we have T = T/12 + N.

Since we have 24 hours in a day, we can solve the above equation for N , 24 = 24/12 + N
24 = 2 + N
N = 22

Mr. Amit is helping me greatly in the preparation for my SAT Math 2. I come from Dubai, but that hasn't made a difference in the level and standard of teaching in Mr. Amit's line. His explanations are always clear, compact and to the point. His patience and passion is what makes him an amazing teacher. He is well aware and in the know of everything he teaches. I am sure I will score a great deal on my SAT Math 2. Thank you sir.

 Hello Every one!!!
I wish to share a few things with people living outside India especially. I have developed a course in VEDIC MATHS. Its ideal for the age group 9 to 15 years old students. When you recall the ancient teaching methods which we had to undergo during our school days, there was a lot of emphasis on mental Maths or mental calculations. The same has been replaced by calculator or computer. This has resulted into poor mental ability/calculation for the present generation students. I dont say depending on technology is bad. But I do understand, using technology at such an early age may not prove beneficial. Technology for calculation purpose at a later stage can also be used. To make mental calculation easy and interesting, there is a lot of things described in Vedas. My mental calculation improvement course is based on SUTRAS from Vedas.Studying VEDIC MATHEMATICS has many benefits some of which are given below:

1. Vedic Math is simpler yet more interesting than regular Math.

2. Vedic Mathematics enriches knowledge and understanding of Mathematics, which shows clear links and continuity between different branches of Mathematics.

3. Vedic Mathematics methods come as a boon for all competitive exams (such as Management, Banking, Engineering etc.) As Mathematic problems can be solved with amazing accuracy and speed.

4. Vedic Mathematics being a most natural way of working can be learnt and mastered with ease and in a very short time.

5.Vedic Mathematics system also provides a set of independent crosschecking methods.

6.The element of choice and flexibility develops clarity of mind and intuition.

7. Leads to improvement in mental ability, sharpness, creativity and intelligence.

8. Problems are reduced to one-line answers.

9. Reduces dependence on calculators.

10. Vedic Math is complementary to regular Math taught in schools.

11. Students learning Vedic Math excel at school.

My recommendation

I recommend "Vedic Maths" course to every student in age group of 9 to 15. Free demo can be provided on request.

Algebra 1 Help for your Child

This covers both the reasons why it is highly advisable to master this subject, and the measures which you may need to take to get effective Algebra 1 homework help for your child.curriculum will include at least
If your child is preparing for college, the     curriculum will include at least  two more years of mathematics, as well as Chemistry and Physics. All of these will require, to a significant degree, use of the skills which should have been acquired in Algebra I. If these need to be “extensively reviewed” during the subsequent classes, your child will be—at best—struggling to keep up.

Colleges tend to verify, by means other than assigned letter grades, applicants’ actual mastery of high-school mathematics. If this appears to be inadequate, admission may be denied, or students may be required to take remedial classes.

What needs to be accomplished, over the duration of an Algebra I class, is that the following topics be mastered:

A. Signed arithmetic, order of operations, simplification of expressions

B. Setup and solving of first-degree, single-unknown, equations

C. Handling of systems of two first-degree equations

D. Factoring, quadratic equations, polynomial multiplication and division

Each of these needs to be learned before study of the next can profitably begin. If your child is having difficulty or needs Algebra 1 homework help, and is unable to obtain adequate help at school, consider one of the following:

A. If you, or possibly an older relative, can help, this may be most cost-effective.

B. On-demand, online tutoring may be available, either through a library or for a per-hour charge. The procedures often provide for total anonymity between tutor and student; there is unlikely to be any continuity between sessions. Even so, the better organizations enforce standards over both tutor qualifications and session content; the quality of assistance, on a specific problem, is likely to be good.

C. If your child appears to be falling behind, consider hiring a private tutor for pre-scheduled sessions of Algebra 1 homework help. These can be provided either online, or in person. Online sessions tend to be easier to schedule, somewhat less time-consuming for the parent, and quite effective

TEST STRATEGY FOR SAT AND ACT

Here are a few below for each test SAT and ACT

a. Spend more time on the easier questions
b. Skip questions you have no idea how to answer. You are penalized for incorrect answers, but not for omitted questions.
c. For the grid-in question in the Math section, put something down for each one. They are like bonus questions; you do not get penalized for wrong answers here.

a. Do not leave any question blank. Your answer will be marked wrong if you leave it blank so put something.
b. You don’t have to answer the questions in order. You may want to start with the questions at the end of a section first if they seem easier.

c. Manage your time wisely. Again, it is important that you attempt to get to each question on the test since you will be penalized if you don’t answer them. Do not spend too much time on any question or reading passage. For example, give yourself 9 minutes per passage in the Reading section and about 1 minute per question on the Math section.

Why learning Mathematics is really Important for us

For any chosen career path the foundation lies in effectively using Mathematics.  In every walk of life be it managing expenditure, understanding the budget, balancing the chequebook, or keeping track of profits in business etc., etc., require understanding Mathematics.  Math differs from English and other Humanities. In English and many other humanities, missing a step, skipping a few sentences or even pages, not knowing the definition of a new word, etc is frequently allowed. Each step in mathematics depends critically on each preceding step. Learning addition depends on knowing the numbers, being able to count.  Multiplication is meaningless without a mastery of addition.  Division is defined in terms of multiplication.  Whenever an unknown term or symbol is encountered in mathematics it is critical to master its meaning and practical use before continuing.  Always understand and proceed.  If you get lost back up to what you know and start over.  Take smaller steps and practice more at each step, until you start making progress.  Take your time and master each step in sequence. It usually takes a minimum of three worked examples or other repetitions to remember something. Be patient. Often many more repetitions, followed by continued use is needed for full mastery. This is in nutshell the secret of mastering mathematics for most people.  Progress and Mathematics go hand in hand.

All About Advance Placement ( A.P) Test

In addition to the SAT, a student can appear for Advanced Placement test to enhance his/her chances of admission to US universities and colleges. Advanced Placement (AP) exams are administered by the American College Board in the U.S. for secondary school students. The AP program offers college level courses just after XI standard, thus providing one year benefit to the students. The syllabus of AP is of college level and is meant for students with high academic excellence.
Each year, College Board offers a number of AP exams on most core subjects. There are a total of 22 subjects offered in India under the AP program and a student is free to choose any number of subjects. Every exam has multiple choice and subjective sections.

Structure

The first part of the exam usually consists of multiple-choice questions. A student is supposed to choose the best of four or five answer choices. Answers must be marked on your AP answer sheet (bubble sheet). The total exam score on the multiple-choice section is based only on the number of questions answered correctly. There is no negative marking for incorrect or un-attempted question.
The second part of the exam usually consists of re-response questions that require the student to generate his/her own responses. Depending on the exam, responses could be in the form of an essay, a solution to a problem, a spoken response, and more. In most cases, students will be writing their response in pen in the free-response exam booklet.

ACT or SAT

Some students are opting for the SAT over the ACT because they mistakenly believe that the College Board’s exam is favored by colleges.
A survey of Kaplan SAT students found that one-third thought that colleges accepted the College Board’s SAT exam results more than the American College Test (ACT).  Both tests help colleges to determine an applicant’s readiness for college, but the SAT is more popular in the eastern United States while the ACT is more popular in the western and southern parts of the country.
That probably explains the primary reason for the regional disparity in America: peer influence. One of the surveys conducted reveal that 27 percent of SAT test participant admitted that they were taking test as their friends were  taking the same test.  Paul Weeks, vice president of client relations for ACT, Inc. confirms this in an email:  “Test-taking patterns and behaviors are regional and can be impacted by different influencers ranging from peers to parents. There are still many myths and misrepresentations out there, but we’re glad to see them diminishing.”
The tide is changing because the ACT has surpassed the SAT in recent years and “is now the most popular college-entrance exam.”  The myth has been dispelled:  “…all four-year U.S. colleges equally accept results of an ACT or SAT exam for consideration in the admissions process.”

A Journey To happiness or a Journey Of happiness.

We as a human being usually have a common belief and we often say each other, wait till I get promotion and I will be happy ( or success in particular exam, marriage, birth or getting a own house).Try remembering a single moment in your life without these and you will be left wondering. In this message, we try and convince our readers the futility (worthlessness) of waiting for goals to be achieved and then becoming happy. So we argue is it a journey to happiness or is it a journey of happiness? The wait for happiness is futile because one goal is followed by another challenge; the challenge is followed by another unexpected phase, leaving us without any moments to experience our desired happiness amidst so many uncomfortable pressure points.
Happiness can be defined as a state of being created, while working towards a goal, not a feeling to be experienced after achieving the goal, simply because life is a journey with a series of goals, sometimes one after the other and sometimes with two or even more than two goals co-existing with each other. So should one anxiously wait for the goals to be achieved or should one take the wait for goals to be achieved, in one’s stride accepting it as a part and parcel of our life journey. For very long, we have associated happiness with achievement and this has become an integral part of our modern day belief system, as the speed of life has become faster and more challenging with each day. We suggest a change in this ideology and associate happiness with experiencing each day –creative ideas; experiencing strengths, specialties and skills by bringing them in action and also experiencing beautiful relationships with others; the relationship with the self; and love by sharing and receiving it from others.

Using Creativity and Positive Thinking To Overcome Dependencies

The correct use of creativity and positive thinking helps us to overcome any type of dependencies or negative tendencies that we may have. Often we live under the illusion (false belief) that we can only be happy thanks to objects, people and places, but happiness is something that we experience when we put our heart into something, and our intention is of giving and not of taking. In the creative activity that we experience greatest enjoyment in, our happiness comes from within and expresses itself outwards, and not from the outside in. Creative personal development helps us to overcome laziness. On overcoming it, we recover the inner strength necessary to free ourselves of certain dependencies, such as the dependency on the creativity of others to entertain us e.g. watching a movie in which actors entertain the viewers. It is fine to enjoy entertainment, but the important thing is that you are capable of spending a good amount of time being creative yourself, overcoming laziness, boredom and the wasting away of our own inner creative capacity.

Also, let us learn to create thoughts which are positive and creative. They arise out of the spiritual knowledge of the inner self or soul. In this way, thanks to those higher quality creative thoughts, full of peace, harmony, love and happiness, the mind gets strengthened and is able to overcome old habits and negative tendencies which we hold on to or are dependent on.

 Message for the day

The more you are humble, the more will be your success.

Contemplation:
Humility gives you the wings to fly. It gives you enthusiasm based on your inner truth and you can easily move forward. When there is no humility you will find yourself being pulled back again and again.

Application:
When you do something, remind yourself of how much you are enjoying it. Let there be no desire for recognition or praise. Then you will find yourself succeeding in the task that you undertake and you will be appreciated too.

LEARN FROM MISTAKES

It’s okay to make mistakes , but what is important is to learn from those mistakes. This is the result   of  a new study from researchers with the Baycrest Rotman Research Institute and the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto.  Andrée-Ann Cyr, led the study that reports benefits of making mistakes for both younger and older adults.
Cyr and her team studied two groups of participants—65 younger adults (average age: 22) and 64 older adults (average age:72).  Participants were given learning and memory tests.  Cyr shared the results in a report in the Journal of Experimental Psychology:  Learning, Memory, and Cognition.
The researchers found that making mistakes while learning may help memory.  All types of mistakes do not help, however.  Researchers found that random guesses do not enhance memory; trial-and-error learning helps memory if those mistakes “are meaningfully related to the answer.”   When they are not meaningfully related, those mistakes can actually hurt memory.   This was true for both groups.
College students can use this information to retain information better and to foster lifelong learning later in life.
I personally agree with what researchers have mentioned above. With my years of experience to teach math to  K - 12 students , here in India I  was  initially helping the students while solving the questions on different topics in Mathematics. I found that the result was not up to my satisfaction. What I was doing that I explained them the topic, and solved few questions of different types based on that. Now when they were given the similar type of questions in the exam, majority of them failed to solve.
Later on I changed my strategy, instead of help them out directly even for tricky  questions, I insisted that they should read the question again and again and try to get out from the question what is given and what is to be found out. Some times information many not be given directly* , so they had to just think of how the useful and necessary information can be derived from the question. Luckily this method clicked as now students were using their head, committing mistakes and then learning from that.

Checking Myself On The Stage Of Action

Once we become aware of the possible types of thoughts that the mind creates at different times in the span of a particular day, then we are in a position to keep a check on our thoughts and understand where our energy is being wasted. Once we realize that there are patterns of waste and negative thinking at some times during the day, which are usually triggered by certain situations or people, we can apply a brake on the pattern of habitual negative thinking, thereby transforming this energy wastage into something more positive.

It does happen, that when we are informed about the benefits of meditation for the first time, perhaps in a course or a presentation either in the office, in a center of a spiritual organization or elsewhere; we realize the need for the same but we also feel that, in order to get the house of our minds in order, we need to leave our busy city lifestyles behind and head for the hills. There, we think, we will find the time and the physical and spiritual environment to practice meditation and get our mental state in order, but this is absolutely untrue. While going on an occasional spiritual retreat is certainly useful and recommended for the development of the spiritual self, the real workshop is life itself. Even if I am able to maintain a positive and powerful state of mind in a retreat, it is in our daily actions and relationships with others where the challenge lies, it is on the stage of action or karma kshetra that we have to check whether we can remain soul-conscious i.e. in the awareness of our spiritual identity. It is here where we have to see whether we can apply the brakes on patterns of negative thinking, establish and maintain patterns of positive thinking and test whether we have reached the stage where, no person or situation, however negative, can disturb our state of mind.

WE ARE SPIRITUAL BEINGS

We are spiritual beings. Depending on the choices we have made in the past, and the choices we are making in the present, our experience of life unfolds, giving us both pleasure and pain, joy and suffering. Ultimately, all of us want to experience more joy and love in our life. To become more spiritual to simply go back to our true nature, which is joy, and to claim back our capability of experiencing unconditional love.

The process of experiencing life itself has an effect of growing spiritually, as life teaches us well, by repeating the lessons we have not learned yet. Thus, life on earth itself is a spiritual journey and everyone is on a spiritual path by default, whether he considers himself a spiritual student or not. However, the process of learning only through life experience can be very slow and on an average, very little spiritual progress is made in a lifetime. And then, based on the choices we make, an individual may even regress instead of growing spiritually!

More formally, when one says he is on the spiritual path, it means the individual has started to realize the futility of only running after things in the material world. He has begun to suspect that his happiness is not so much dependent on the things outside, as much as it is located inside of him. He has started to take more responsibility for this life. He has started to detach from his mind, he has started to let go of his attachments, resentments, expectations and judgements. Overall, the spiritual student has realized the value of self-development and increased awareness. After undergoing evolution for thousands of years, the soul is now more interested in involution, to get back to source, to its original nature.

Progressively, the spiritual student becomes motivated to spend more effort on self-development through a variety of avenues - books, meditation, seminars, retreats, satsangs, counseling, personal coaching etc. Then, at more advanced stages, the spiritual pursuit becomes the more dominant force. The perspective of life as you knew it earlier completely changes, and your entire life undergoes a transformation.

The way you know that you are progressing on the path is that the amount of love and joy in your life will generally increases, and you begin to feel more and more oneness with everyone. And yes, along the way you will have spiritual experiences that will both motivate you to stay on the path, and at the same time can be painful when it goes away after you experience a high.
